200 Hour Basic Teacher Training

Led by MJ Turnbull & Meg Soucy (6-Month Program)

A 200 hour-teacher training is the foundation of a yoga teacher’s training. It is the baseline requirement of a teacher to have under their belt prior to teaching a yoga class anywhere.

Our training is anything but basic. It will set you up for success wherever you go to feel confident, strong, and capable to serve with intelligence and grace.

Many people also choose to undergo the commitment of a 200-hour training to simply deepen their understanding and yoga practice. This training will again supersede those expectations and will change your life.

What You Will Learn:

  • ANATOMY! Week after week, we are prepared to offer you anatomy training (like no other) that will be applicable on and off the mat!

  • Philosophy: Entrenched in the ancient texts brought to light in a modern era, you will be introduced to the Yoga Sutras, led by Meg!

  • Inspiring and dynamic vinyasa yoga sequencing, grounded in proper alignment.

  • Pose modifications to ensure that each pose is safe and effective for every body type and physical challenge.

  • Verbal cues and hands‐on assists.

  • Transformational language that creates an atmosphere of trust, inclusivity, and self‐exploration.

  • Breath awareness and pranayama practices to incorporate into your classes.

  • Common Sanskrit terms and their translations.

  • The history of yoga and its modern applications.

  • Basic meditation practices.

  • The business side of yoga.

  • Introduction to the Energetic System and Bodies.

  • Most importantly, you will learn to bring your unique personality and style into your teaching and life.


Schedule

Starts in September 2024 and ends in February 2025.

One weekend/month:

  • Fridays: 6 to 9 p.m.

  • Saturdays and Sundays: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Zoom, then from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Yoga Odyssey in Somerville.

  • October 18-20

  • November 15-17

  • December 13-15

  • January 3-5

  • January 17-19

  • January 31 - February 2

  • Graduation: February 14-16
