Prenatal Workshop: Birthing through the Art of Yoga

Join Yoga Odyssey’s birth doula and yoga teacher Meg for a prenatal workshop geared toward birth itself — learn how to bring yoga into your birthing experience. Join us for this educational and integrative workshop.

This workshop will help integrate everything you’ve learned in yoga into the birthing room, and it will aim to help moms who have never stepped foot into a yoga class gain great insight into how breath work and movement are birth’s best medicine.

This workshop is not just for the birthing person but also their partner. (Partners can join for an additional $20.) Bringing your partner is not essential, but it is so very helpful to have your main support person taking in the many ways to support you through birth.

Alignment Refinement

Alignment refinement is a workshop designed to offer teachers and students an opportunity to evolve their practice to meet the modern body. We know the practice of Yoga dates back thousands of years. The postures and teachings live on with so much benefit, BUT!!! Even though fitness science and research has evolved to compliment the western human body, the traditional physical practice of yoga does not always meet our cultural physical needs. This workshop aims to give the yogi and teacher tools to meet our bodies where they are instead of forcing our bodies into a posture that may or may not be benefiting us. It will challenge and myth bust some of the common misalignments in our body so that we may create a practice that sustains us and prevents us from injury in all yoga classes.

Girl’s Night Out: Sunset Yoga

Yoga Odyssey is excited to participate in  Somerville’s Girls Night Out by offering sunset yoga to the wonderful ladies of our community.

For $15 you may pick up your general admissions wristband at the studio any time after 4:00pm, leave your mat in a safe cubby in our space, enjoy the various events offered for the evening,  then pick up your mat and meet us at the court yard lawn at 7:30 for a nice evening flow with Nancy Mackey. This class will be structured for all levels.

Yogic traditions teach that the human body has seven main energy centers called chakras. These chakras relate our experiences to different body parts like your organs, nervous system and senses.

Purify your chakras in our upcoming workshop with Sandy Marotta. Move through a series of yoga poses sequenced according to the chakra system. Different yoga poses, breathing exercises, meditations and chanting correspond to each chakra. By practicing yoga in this way, you not only enhance your health and energy levels but also progress along the spiritual path. Yoga Nidra is a meditation done lying down, so it’s accessible to anyone. The various steps induce the hypnagogic state, a dream-like trance between being awake and asleep. January Yoga Challenge

Building upon the successful November challenge, we now present to you the January Challenge.  What better way to motivate yourself after the holidays than to add the spice of competition to Yoga Odyssey!  This competition will push boundaries and hopefully not all of your buttons!  

This contest will split the studio into two teams who are pitted against each other in the greatest challenge yet to come to Somerville.  Not only will this mentally, physically, and emotionally challenge you…it is also a food drive for a good cause!   

Requirements: 

  • Sign up for the Pushing Boundaries, Not Buttons Challenge.  

  • Complete 21 classes in the month of January… this is where the contest begins.

  • Every class completed following your 21st class will award points to your team.

  • Each class after your 21st class will be worth five points. 

  • Complete 24 classes in the month, earn 15 points for your team.  Complete 30 classes in the month, earn 45 points for your team, etc.  

  • 1 point per food item donated (50 points max per person)

Celebration: 

  • Team with the most points at the end of the month wins!

  • Winning team gets YO gear 

  • Celebration for all challengers: Friday night potluck dinner and drinks!!
