Explore the Deep: Balance & Harmony Inside
On our planet, there exists an entirely different world from the one we know. It’s one that mankind has hardly explored, yet we know that its stability is critical for our survival. The ocean houses species that have yet to be discovered and spans to places yet to be touched. The mystery it represents may often go overlooked as we sunbathe on its shores and rock on our kayaks and paddle boards just above its waves. Below the surface, however, is an ecosystem entirely different from the one we know – holding the secrets of the deep sea and hiding most of the few areas of earth that have yet to be impacted by man.
While there is much still to learn about the ocean and the mechanisms that drive its ability to function, we can still be inspired by the peace that it invites. The newest YO addition – our saltwater reef aquarium – offers us a snapshot of the undiscovered territory that would otherwise exist only in our imaginations or on our screens. The fish that we have brought home have no control over their environment; yet they exist in complete harmony. Each coral and fish serves a distinct purpose without which the others could not thrive. In fact, just as in our world above the ground, one small imbalance would disturb the entire ecosystem. It is delicate and intricate. Even so, our fish are at ease; they exist in equilibrium and cohesion – each doing their jobs so that their companions can live comfortably, so that their world can flourish and so that we can learn.
While our fish tank sets an example of a balanced world and teaches us about a world we might otherwise never know, thereby serving our intelligence system, it also serves our cognitive, emotional, and physical systems. Research has showed that fish tanks enhance our ability to focus and relax, in large part by lowering our blood pressure and promoting slower brain waves. As a result, we experience less stress and anxiety and more resilience and clarity – helping us inch closer to our mission as yogis to create peace within ourselves and preserve homeostasis within our communities. Thank you to our friends at ReefCo for setting us up and continuing to take good care of our new studio therapeutic hobby.
